Jürgen Henze, Prof. Dr., Studium der Chemie, Sozialwissenschaften und Pädagogik an der Ruhr-Universität Bochum, 1985 Promotion. Seit 1993 Professor für Vergleichende Erziehungswissenschaft an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Schwerpunkte in Lehre und Forschung: i) Modernisierungsprozesse und Bildungsentwicklungen in ostasiatischen Bildungssystemen, ii) Theorie und Praxis kultureller Sensibilisierung, iii) nicht-westliche (speziell chinesische) Ansätze interkultureller Kommunikation und Kompetenzentwicklung. Berater und Trainer für Unternehmen und öffentliche Einrichtungen mit dem Schwerpunkt „asiatische Kulturräume“. Vorsitzender des Instituts für die Didaktik interkulturellen Handelns (INDIK e.V.), vormals Mitglied im Vorstand von SIETAR Deutschland und SIETAR Europa. Zahlreiche Forschungs- und Lehraufenthalte in Ostasien, speziell in der VR China und Hong Kong. Kooperationspartner des Artop-Instituts der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin im Rahmen der Ausbildung zum/r Trainer/in & Coach für interkulturelle Kompetenzen (http://artop.de/3000_Ausbildungen/3500_Interkultureller_Trainer.html).

 

Juergen Henze has been professor for comparative education at Humboldt-Universitaet Berlin since 1993. He received his PhD from the Ruhr-Universitaet Bochum in 1985, his research expertise is in Asian education with special reference to Chinese education. His main interest in teaching and research is on i) modernization and educational developments in East Asia, ii) theory and practice of cultural sensitivity (training), as well as (iii) non-western approaches of intercultural communication and competence formation. He works as advisor and trainer for global companies and public institutions, especially on cultures in Asia. Formerly a member of the board in the Society for Intercultural Education, Training and Research (SIETAR) Germany) and SIETAR Europa, visiting professor at Beijing University, University of Hong Kong, Stanford and Harvard University, East China Normal University, Hebei University, Zhejiang Normal University etc. He has been involved in academic administration as a member of the University Council, Vice-Dean, Director of the Institute of Education and currently as the chairman of the examination committee. Various publications on Chinese education, trust and trust building in Chinese communities and non-western approaches to intercultural communication. He is also the director of the Institute for the Didactics of Intercultural Training and Learning. His university based program for training international students to cope with academic life and adaptation in Germany has won the 2007 prize by the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for excellent service to international students.

Prof. Henze offers intercultural training for companies as well as academic institutions, in cooperation
with Artop Institute at Humboldt University he is responsible for one of the major train-the-trainer
courses in Germany.

In 2010 he was the organizer of the first Sino-German Conference on Intercultural Communication, held at HU Berlin in cooperation with the Intercultural Institute at Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).

For the last five years he also served as the representative of HU Berlin in the Center for German Studies at Beijing University.
